Rocio Salas, M.D.
Dr. Salas is originally from Mexico and completed medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. Following her residency at Jacobi Medical Center in New York, she completed a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Maryland. Dr. Salas gained extensive experience with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes at the University of Maryland's Joslin Diabetes Center, part of an elite group of affiliated centers that has been the nation's leader in diabetes research, treatment and education since its founding in 1898. She conducted clinical research at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC and at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, examining the effects of Bariatric surgery on the resolution of diabetes.
Dr. Salas is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, metabolism, obesity, thyroid abnormalities and other endocrine disorders, with a deep range of experience developed through practice and advanced study. Her research has been published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, the Journal of Surgical Research, the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology and the International Journal of Obesity, and presented before the Endocrine Society, the world's oldest, largest, and most active organization devoted to research on hormones and the clinical practice of endocrinology. Dr. Salas has appeared on the television program "Agenda Washington" (Univision Network) speaking about obesity in the U.S.
Dr. Salas is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. She is bilingual and speaks English and Spanish fluently.
